1861

October 27th - Fr Francis Larive said the first post-Reformation Mass in Devizes in a rented warehouse where Chantry Court now stands.

 

1862

May - Wyndham Villas purchased.  St Joseph’s School established.

 

1864

Temporary chapel built.

July 16th - Foundation stone for church of The Immaculate Conception laid.

August - Arrival of Sr Athanase and Sr Stanislaus from India and Sr Josephine from Annecy.

Establishment of St Joseph’s School in the rented warehouse.

 

1865

January 25th - Church of The Immaculate Conception opened.

Temporary chapel used as a school room for St Joseph’s School.

 

1866

Arrival of Fr Francis Decompoix.

 

1867

Departure of Fr Larive to Malmesbury.

Appointment of Fr Decompoix as Parish Priest.

 

1885

St Joseph’s School building enlarged.

 

1886

Fr Bouvard appointed Parish Priest.

 

1886/7

Mother Bridget O’Callaghan appointed headmistress of St Joseph’s School.

 

1892

Fr Louis Valluet, from Savingy in Savoy, appointed curate.
